What is a technical signal?
A technical signal is a scored event derived from an asset’s price-and-volume chart pattern — a trend, a breakout, or a momentum condition identified from market data rather than from a filing or a headline.
Direction follows the pattern: an uptrend or bullish breakout leans bullish, a downtrend or breakdown leans bearish. Technical signals are labelled experimental because chart patterns alone have a mixed track record; they work best as confirmation of a fundamental or filing signal.
Chart-derived, data-driven
A technical signal reads structure in the price series — trend direction, breakouts from a range, momentum shifts. It is computed from market data, so it updates continuously as new candles arrive, unlike filing signals that appear only when a document is filed.
Confluence over patterns
Any single chart pattern can fail. The platform’s strongest reads come from confluence — a technical breakout that coincides with insider buying, heavy volume, or a positive 8-K carries far more weight than the pattern in isolation.

Frequently asked
- Do technical signals predict the market?
- They describe conditions in the chart, not certainties. Because pattern-only approaches have a mixed record, QuantConomy treats them as experimental and weights them most when they agree with filing or fundamental signals.
- How is a technical signal different from a price signal?
- A price signal flags a single notable move; a technical signal reads a broader pattern or trend across many candles. They often appear together.
