What is a smart-money signal?
A smart-money signal highlights activity by the investors with the strongest information edge — insiders and large institutions — when their filings point the same way on a name, distilling “what the informed money is doing” into one event.
Smart-money buying (insiders and institutions accumulating) leans bullish; smart-money selling leans bearish. It is labelled experimental because it synthesises other signals, so it is only as good as the insider and institutional inputs beneath it.
Following the informed money
Insiders and large institutions are the participants most likely to trade on genuine information. A smart-money signal watches for cases where these informed sources move the same direction on a company, combining insider and institutional activity into a single read.
A synthesis signal
Smart-money is a higher-order signal built on top of insider-trade and institutional signals. That makes it convenient — one flag for “informed money is active here” — but it inherits the lags and limits of the filings underneath, which is why it is experimental.
