Binance Coin (BNB) is the native cryptocurrency of the Binance exchange, one of the world's largest and most prominent cryptocurrency exchanges. Created in July 2017 through an initial coin offering (ICO), BNB was initially designed as a utility token to offer discounted trading fees on the Binance platform. However, its uses have expanded significantly. BNB can be used to pay for goods and services, both within and outside the Binance ecosystem, including transaction fees on the Binance Chain and Binance Smart Chain. It also supports various applications such as travel bookings, entertainment, online services, and financial services. BNB is integral to the Binance ecosystem, which includes services like Binance Launchpad for token sales, Binance NFT Marketplace, and Binance Staking. Binance regularly performs quarterly token burns, where a portion of the circulating BNB supply is permanently destroyed to reduce supply and potentially increase the value of remaining tokens. This mechanism aims to maintain a finite supply of 100 million BNB. The BNB Chain, comprising the BNB Beacon Chain and BNB Smart Chain, utilizes a combination of Proof of Stake (PoS) and Proof of Authority (PoA) consensus mechanisms, ensuring lower fees and faster transaction speeds.
