What is a news signal?

A news signal is a scored event derived from a market-news article that QuantConomy has enriched with sentiment, named entities, and asset links — turning a headline into a directional, source-attributed event tied to a specific stock.

How to read the direction

Direction comes from the article’s modelled sentiment toward the linked asset: positive coverage leans bullish, negative coverage leans bearish. Strength reflects how strongly the sentiment reads and how directly the article concerns the asset.

From headline to signal

Raw news is noisy. QuantConomy runs each article through language detection, named-entity recognition, sentiment scoring, and asset matching, so a headline becomes a structured event: which stock, which direction, how strong, and a link back to the original source.

Source attribution

Every news signal keeps the original article link, so you or an AI agent can read the source rather than trust an unattributed sentiment number. That verifiability is the point — the signal is a ranked entry point into the news, not a replacement for it.

Frequently asked

How is sentiment scored?
A sentiment model reads the article and scores how positive or negative it is toward the linked asset. That score sets the signal’s direction and contributes to its strength; the original article is always linked for verification.
Do news signals expire?
Yes. Like all signals they carry an expiry, after which they stop being treated as current — news moves fast and a day-old headline is rarely still actionable.
