The company operates primarily through its majority-owned subsidiary, CompX International Inc., which manufactures engineered components for various industries, including security products such as mechanical and electronic locks, and marine components like stainless steel exhaust systems and wake enhancement systems. Additionally, NL Industries has a noncontrolling interest in Kronos Worldwide, Inc., a global producer and marketer of titanium dioxide pigments used in a wide range of industrial and consumer products. The company has a rich history, dating back to 1772, and was formerly known as the National Lead Company, one of the original stocks in the Dow Jones Industrial Average. NL Industries is a subsidiary of Valhi, Inc.
