SPDR GOLD TRUST
The SPDR Gold Trust (GLD) is an exchange-traded fund (ETF) that tracks the price of gold bullion in the over-the-counter (OTC) market. It is the largest physically backed gold ETF in the world, holding gold bars in the form of London Gold Delivery bars of 400 ounces, stored in vaults in London and other locations. Each share of GLD represents one-tenth of an ounce of gold, providing investors a cost-effective and liquid way to access the gold market without the need to physically hold gold. The fund is designed to achieve the performance of gold bullion, less the expenses of the fund, and is traded on several exchanges including the NYSE Arca, Singapore Stock Exchange, Tokyo Stock Exchange, The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong, and the Mexican Stock Exchange. GLD is often used for portfolio diversification and as a hedge against economic downturns and inflation, with a low beta indicating lower volatility compared to the overall market.
