Armenian Dram

The **Armenian dram** (AMD) is the national currency of Armenia, introduced on November 22, 1993, following the country's independence from the Soviet Union. It is subdivided into 100 luma, although the luma is no longer in use. The Central Bank of Armenia is responsible for issuing and circulating dram banknotes and coins, as well as implementing the country's monetary policy. The currency features various denominations of banknotes (1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, 50,000 drams) and coins (10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 drams), with designs that often honor significant historical and cultural figures and monuments of Armenia. The symbol for the Armenian dram is ֏, which was designed to reflect Armenian lettering and elements typical of other monetary symbols.
